Herman Cain paints grim picture of Obama, America in Tea Party response to SOTU

Herman Cain responded to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech on behalf of the Tea Party Express Tuesday night, saying “We the people are coming.” The Georgia businessman went on to characterize the president’s address as a “hodgepodge” of little ideas before answering questions from the crowd at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Streamed online, Cain’s response was nearly twice the length originally planned and followed the official Republican response by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. Many of its themes matched Cain’s performances in the GOP primary debates. He criticized what he called an “elitist” political and media culture, the Affordable Care Act, and government spending.

“With all due respect to the president, some of us are not stupid,” Cain said. “The state of the union is not good. We want common-sense solutions. That’s how we do it outside of Washington, and we happen to believe we need more common-sense solutions inside of Washington.”

Cain called current conditions in America a “nightmare scenario” about which Obama is in denial. He cited unemployment figures, adjusted for the underemployed and those who stopped looking work, as a better indicator of the nation’s economy than the declining jobless numbers put forth by the president in his address.

Cain also accused Obama for engaging in class warfare and having surrogates for his administration make “racial innuendos.”

“Stop the blame game,” said Cain.

The presentation concluded with a question and answer session in which Cain answered inaudible questions from the audience. In conclusion, he said, “God is blessing America” and he encouraged Americans to join the Tea Party movement.
