Pocono conservative activists skeptical of Herman Cain allegations

Two Monroe County conservative activists don’t believe sexual harassment accusations lodged against Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

Cain, a former corporate executive and contender for the GOP presidential nomination, has denied allegations of inappropriate behavior voiced by several women.

“I don’t think he sexually harassed anyone,” said Brad Strasser of Founders Tea Party Patriots. “They’re not charges. They’re not even allegations, just something that’s going to blow by.”

Strasser, an airline pilot, recently saw Cain speak in St. Louis. Strasser is leaning toward supporting Cain in the crowded Republican field.

“He has that charisma and ability to do things,” Strasser said. “I like his ability to turn things around, turn businesses around. He has that Midas touch.”

Strasser admires Cain’s perseverance in recovering from advanced colon cancer.

Fidelia Friedman, vice president of the Pocono Republican Hispanic Association, blames media bias for highlighting the harassment allegations.

“It’s amazing how the liberal media is so eager to try to investigate and find out anything that’s happening to any conservative candidate,” Friedman said. “And they ignore what is happening to Democratic candidates.”

Friedman said it is too soon for her to support a particular GOP candidate, but she doesn’t believe Cain has been hurt by the harassment allegations.

“I don’t think it will affect Cain at all,” Friedman said. “I think his poll numbers are going up.”

Friedman said she could support any Republican candidate who wins the nomination. But Strasser doesn’t think former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is a true conservative.

“I’d prefer someone to be consistent on a philosophy instead of a campaign based on winning at all costs,” Strasser said. “If he doesn’t think he can roll over the competition, he will quit, take his ball and go home.”
